Steeplechase is a competitive sports game released by Atari for the Atari 2600 in 1975. Up to four players control horses racing across the screen, tasked with timing their jumps over approaching hurdles. It is a simple, single-screen multiplayer experience focused purely on timing and reflexes.
How to play
Your objective is to reach the finish line first by successfully jumping over the hurdles in your lane. Using the keyboard controls, Player 1 jumps with the Spacebar, and Player 2 jumps with the A key.
Tips
- Focus entirely on the distance between your horse and the approaching hurdle before jumping. Because the game speed can vary, anticipating the hurdle’s arrival is more reliable than reacting at the last split second.
- The game is best experienced with multiple players, so grab a friend for head-to-head competition.
