BurgerTime is an action-puzzle game by Data East, first released in arcades in 1982 and ported to the Atari 2600 that same year. Playing as chef Peter Pepper, you walk across giant ingredient layers — buns, patties, lettuce, and tomatoes — to drop them onto the plates below and assemble each hamburger. Three enemies — Mr. Hot Dog, Mr. Egg, and Mr. Pickle — hunt you across the stage’s stacked platforms and ladders; Peter Pepper’s only defence is a limited supply of pepper spray that temporarily stuns whatever is in range.
How to play
Walk Peter Pepper fully across an ingredient to send it falling one level. Completing all the burger stacks on a screen clears the stage. Enemies standing on a falling ingredient are carried down and crushed — luring several onto the same layer before you cross it earns a bonus. If a falling ingredient lands on another ingredient below, that one drops too, chaining the fall. Pepper spray saves you when cornered but does not refill between lives, so spend it carefully.

Tips
- Herd two or three enemies onto the same ingredient before crossing it — each one crushed in a single drop multiplies the bonus.
- Set up chain drops: position yourself so a falling ingredient lands on another ingredient below and triggers a second fall for free.
- Pepper spray is finite; save it for moments when an enemy has you trapped on a dead-end platform, not as a first response every time one appears.
