Game description:

Snake’s Revenge is an action game released for the NES in 1990, developed by Konami as an unofficial, non-canon sequel to the original Metal Gear and produced without series creator Hideo Kojima’s involvement. It sends secret agent Solid Snake on a solo mission into an enemy stronghold to destroy a newly built Metal Gear, trading much of the original’s stealth focus for more direct, action-oriented combat.

How to Play

Fight your way through a mix of overhead infiltration stages and side-scrolling combat stretches, switching between a handgun, a throwing knife, and plastic explosives as you take out enemy soldiers. A radio transceiver lets you call in contacts for codes, intel, and support as you push deeper into the base toward the new Metal Gear.

Move Snake with the arrow keys. Z and X work as the NES A and B buttons for attacking and using items, and Enter and Shift serve as Start and Select for pausing and switching equipment.

Tips

  • Save your knife for enemies at close range — it kills in one hit without spending ammo or explosives.
  • Grenades force you into the open when thrown, so throw from cover and duck back before the blast.
  • Check in on the radio often; your contacts’ tracker can point you toward the next objective when you’re stuck.
