Silver Surfer is a notoriously challenging shoot ’em up released for the NES in 1990. Developed by Software Creations, it is famous both for its legendary soundtrack by Tim Follin and its unforgiving difficulty, where touching almost any piece of scenery results in instant defeat. The game alternates between side-scrolling and top-down perspectives as you guide the cosmic herald through waves of enemies to defeat powerful villains from the Marvel universe.
How to Play
Your objective is to survive the enemy onslaught and reach the end of each stage. Use the arrow keys to move around the screen. Press Z to fire your cosmic blasts, and X to use a screen-clearing smart bomb if you have one in stock. Press Enter to pause.
Tips
- Your hitbox is surprisingly large, and your surfboard is vulnerable. Give all walls, ceilings, and obstacles a very wide berth.
- Collect the silver spheres left by certain enemies to summon a smaller orb that fights alongside you and provides extra firepower.
- Focus on memorizing the stages, as the boundary between harmless background and deadly collision can be deceptive.
