SilkWorm is a 1988 side-scrolling shooter for the NES, notable for its distinct asymmetric co-op. You can choose to pilot a heavily armed helicopter or drive a combat jeep, with two players able to control one of each simultaneously. Both vehicles progress through the same stage but play entirely differently: the helicopter has full flight movement but is vulnerable from all sides, while the jeep is restricted to the ground but can angle its fire to cover the airspace.
How to play
Your objective is to survive enemy waves and destroy the large boss at the end of each stage. Use the arrow keys to move. For the helicopter, press Z to fire forward. For the jeep, press Z to fire and X to jump over landmines and terrain. The jeep's gun will tilt upward or backward depending on your movement, allowing you to hit aerial targets.
Tips
- If you are playing solo, the helicopter is generally easier to survive with since it has free movement and avoids ground hazards.
- In two-player co-op, divide the screen: have the helicopter clear out high-altitude enemies and turrets while the jeep handles ground troops and low-flyers.
- Shoot the transport pods to collect weapon upgrades, but be carefulโdying strips you of your power-ups, making boss fights significantly harder.
