P.O.W. – Prisoners of War is an action beat ’em up developed by SNK and released for the NES in 1989. Based on the popular arcade title, this home console version tasks you with breaking out of a heavily guarded military camp. Unlike the co-op arcade original, the NES port is a strictly single-player experience but introduces new mechanics like exploring enemy huts to secure crucial weapons and upgrades.
How to Play
Your objective is to fight your way out of the enemy base, defeating soldiers, vehicles, and bosses to secure your freedom. You start bare-handed but can use weapons dropped by enemies.
- Movement: Arrow Keys
- Punch: Z
- Kick: X
- Jump Kick: Z + X simultaneously
- Start/Pause: Enter
Tips
- Search every hut: Enter open doors and defeat the enemies inside to earn valuable gear like body armor, brass knuckles, or an M16.
- Master the jump kick: This move is your best option for crowd control, allowing you to knock down multiple enemies and escape when surrounded.
- Save grenades for bosses: Grenades deal massive damage and are highly effective against tough targets like helicopters and tanks, so do not waste them on standard guards.
