Millipede (Japan) is a classic fixed shooter game for the NES, released in 1987. Originally developed by Atari as the 1982 arcade sequel to Centipede, this Famicom port by HAL Laboratory brings the frantic bug-blasting action home. The player defends against swarms of descending insects, featuring expanded enemy behaviors and more complex gameplay variations than its predecessor.
How to Play
The objective is to destroy the titular millipede as it winds down through a field of mushrooms, along with spiders, earwigs, and other pests. Use the D-pad (arrow keys) to move your ship around the lower section of the screen, and press the A or B buttons (Z or X keys) to fire. Press Start (Enter) to begin the game.
Tips
- DDT Bombs: Shoot the stationary DDT bombs when multiple enemies are within the blast radius for massive points and instant field clears.
- Prioritize Earwigs: Earwigs poison mushrooms they touch, which causes the millipede to dive straight to the bottom of the screen. Take them out quickly.
- Close-Range Spiders: Spiders bounce around the player area and can be dangerous, but they offer much higher score payouts if destroyed at close range.
