Metal Black is an atmospheric horizontal shoot ’em up released by Taito for the arcade in 1991. You pilot the CF-345 Black Fly through six intense stages set against a ruined Earth and deep space, battling an alien race known as Nemesis. Instead of traditional weapon upgrades, the game revolves around a unique energy system: collecting NEWALONE power-ups charges your beam meter, which can be released as a devastating blast or used to duel enemy bosses in spectacular beam struggles.
How to Play
Your objective is to survive all six stages and defeat the Nemesis bosses at the end of each level. Insert coins with Shift and start the game with Enter. Use the Arrow Keys to maneuver your ship. Press Z to fire your standard weapon, and press X to release your charged energy beam once your gauge is sufficiently full.
Tips
- The Beam Duel: When a boss fires its massive energy beam, wait a split second and fire yours directly into it. If timed right, the beams will clash; rapidly press the shot button to push the energy back at the boss for massive damage.
- Manage Your Energy: Your standard shot becomes more powerful as your beam gauge fills. Sometimes it is better to hold onto a full charge for the increased standard firepower rather than releasing the beam immediately.
