Metal Max is a groundbreaking open-world, post-apocalyptic RPG released in 1991 for the NES by Crea-Tech. Setting itself apart from traditional fantasy games of the era, you play as a hunter navigating a desolate wasteland to fight mutated monsters and outlaws. Instead of swords and magic, combat heavily revolves around acquiring, customizing, and upgrading a variety of tanks and vehicles to survive the harsh environment.
How to Play
Your objective is to freely explore the world, hunt down wanted bounties to earn cash, and continually upgrade your vehicles. Use the D-pad to move, A and B for actions, and Start/Select for menus. In the browser emulator, these are mapped to the Arrow keys, Z and X, and Enter/Shift respectively.
Tips
- Get a vehicle quickly: Combat on foot is extremely dangerous. Securing your first tank should be your primary goal before venturing far.
- Watch your weight limit: Every tank has a weight limit. Equipping heavier cannons reduces the amount of armor tiles you can carry, leaving you vulnerable to critical part damage.
- Search the sands: Use the Metal Detector item frequently while exploring the world map. You can uncover hidden weapons, items, and even entirely new buried vehicles.
