Released in 1988 for the NES by SNK, Ikari II – Dogosoken (known in the West as Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road) trades the military battlefields of the original for a brutal, alien dimension. In this vertical run-and-gun shooter, players guide commandos Ralf and Clark as they blast through hordes of extraterrestrial enemies, picking up devastating weapon upgrades and wielding heavy armour to survive an infamously punishing sci-fi landscape.
How to play
Your objective is to survive the gauntlet of alien creatures and reach the end of each stage. Use the arrow keys to move in eight directions. Press X (A button) to shoot your primary weapon and Z (B button) to throw grenades. Enter acts as Start, and Shift as Select. You can enter and exit protective armour scattered throughout the levels to withstand enemy fire.
Tips
- Your grenades are powerful but limited; save them for clearing out clustered groups or heavily armored alien mini-bosses.
- Weapons can be upgraded by collecting power-ups, but dying resets your arsenal. Play cautiously and prioritize dodging enemy projectiles over rushing forward.
