Ikari III: The Rescue is a 1990 top-down action game developed by SNK for the NES. Breaking away from the heavy run-and-gun shooting of its predecessors, this third entry shifts the focus heavily toward martial arts and beat ’em up combat. Players once again take control of soldiers Paul and Vince (Ralf and Clark), tasked with infiltrating a terrorist base to rescue a kidnapped presidential candidate’s child.
How to Play
The objective is to fight your way through top-down stages, relying primarily on hand-to-hand combat while occasionally picking up limited-use weapons. In your browser, use the Arrow keys to move in eight directions. Press Z (A button) to punch and X (B button) to kick. Press Enter to Start and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Pressing Punch and Kick (Z + X) simultaneously performs a jump kick, which is an excellent crowd-control move for knocking down multiple enemies at once.
- Since you lack the constant firepower of previous games, avoid running blindly into groups of enemies; let them approach you so you can strike first.
- Weapons are scarce and their ammunition is limited, so save them for tougher enemies or boss encounters.
