Gremlins 2: The New Batch is a top-down action platformer developed by Sunsoft (Sun Electronics) and released for the NES in 1990. Based on the film of the same name, players take control of Gizmo as he battles his way through the Clamp Center to stop the gremlin outbreak. You navigate levels from an overhead perspective, using various weapons like tomatoes, a bow with flaming arrows, and matches to fight off mutant gremlins and hazards.
How to play
Your objective is to survive the stages of the Clamp building and defeat the bosses at the end of each area, culminating in the final fight against the Spider Gremlin. The controls map the NES layout to your keyboard:
- Move: Arrow Keys
- Jump: X
- Attack: Z
- Start: Enter
- Select: Shift
Tips
- Collect the crystal orbs dropped by defeated enemies; these act as currency that you can spend at Mr. Wing’s secret shop to buy extra lives, health restorations, and weapon upgrades.
- The overhead perspective can make judging jumps over pits slightly tricky. Pay close attention to Gizmo’s shadow to gauge your landing spot.
- Certain stages require you to pogo-stick over spikes or use balloons to cross wide gaps. Don’t rush these platforming sections, as falling is one of the quickest ways to lose a life.
