Originally developed by Capcom and brought to the Sega Genesis in 1989, Ghouls ‘n Ghosts is a punishing action-platformer and the direct sequel to the arcade hit Ghosts ‘n Goblins. Players guide the valiant Knight Arthur through a ghastly realm of undead creatures and demons to rescue captured souls and his beloved Princess Prin-Prin from the demon lord Lucifer. Famous for its unforgiving difficulty, the game forces players to rely on varied throwable weapons and Arthur’s fragile armor, which shatters after a single hit and leaves him fighting in his boxer shorts.
How to Play
Your objective is to navigate Arthur to the end of each stage, defeat the resident boss, and survive the grueling gauntlet to the endโthough seeing the true ending requires beating the game twice in a row. For the emulator controls, use the Arrow keys to move and crouch, Z / X / C to jump and attack (emulating the Sega Genesis A, B, and C buttons), and Enter to start.
Tips
- Look for Golden Armor: Opening certain chests will grant Arthur the golden armor, which allows him to charge up devastating magical attacks that vary depending on his currently equipped weapon.
- Shoot Up and Down: Unlike the first game, Arthur can now shoot directly upwards while standing, and downwards while jumping. Use this added mobility to safely clear enemies from above or below.
- Beware of Magicians: Chests will sometimes spawn a malicious magician instead of an item. If his spell hits you, Arthur will be temporarily transformed into an old man or a duck, leaving him defenseless.
