Game description:

First Samurai is a unique action-platformer released for the SNES in 1993. Originally developed by Vivid Image, it follows a martial arts master who travels through time to defeat the evil Demon King. Armed with a magical sword that gains power as you collect energy, you must navigate expansive, multi-directional levels filled with monsters, environmental hazards, and hidden secrets.

How to Play

Your objective is to explore each era, defeat enemies, and uncover the path forward while keeping your sword energy high. When your energy drops, you lose your sword and must fight unarmed until you gather more. Since this is an SNES title, the default browser controls map the D-pad to your arrow keys, A/B/X/Y to Z/X/A/S, L/R to Q/W, and Start/Select to Enter/Shift.

Tips for Survival

  • Keep your sword: Prioritize collecting food and energy to maintain your mystical sword. Fighting with bare hands drastically reduces your range and damage.
  • Use the Magic Bell: Don’t forget to use your Magic Bell to summon the wizard at specific locations, which is often required to bypass obstacles or reach new areas.
  • Explore thoroughly: Levels are non-linear. Take your time to strike walls and objects to uncover hidden items and power-ups that will help you survive later stages.
