The Firemen is a top-down action game developed by Human Entertainment and released in 1994 for the SNES. You play as Pete, a heroic firefighter paired with his AI partner Daniel, tasked with surviving an intense holiday shift at the Metrotech building. Unlike typical shooters, your enemies are dynamically spreading flames and massive “boss” fires that behave like living creatures. Though an official North American release was cancelled, this prototype version allows you to experience the tense, fire-fighting action fully in English.
How to Play
Your objective is to navigate through the blazing building, rescue trapped civilians, and clear sections by defeating major fire outbreaks. Using the SNES controls mapped to your keyboard, the D-pad (Arrow Keys) moves Pete, while the A and B buttons (Z and X keys) control your hose. You can spray a direct stream of water to tackle distant fires or use a sweeping spray to extinguish flames right at your feet and protect yourself from damage.
Tips
- Pay attention to the type of fire you’re fighting; the sweeping spray is essential for small crawling flames, while the straight hose stream is needed for larger, distant targets.
- Don’t rush blindly into new rooms. Move slowly and let your AI partner Daniel extinguish some of the background hazards to conserve your health.
- Always rescue civilians when you spot them, as they restore your life meter.
