Game description:

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War is a landmark 1996 tactical RPG released for the Super Famicom (SNES) by Intelligent Systems. Regarded as one of the most ambitious titles in the series, it introduces the generation system where characters can fall in love, marry, and pass their stats, skills, and holy weapons down to their children in the second half of the story. The game also debuts the franchise’s iconic weapon triangle system. Thanks to an English translation patch, you can experience this massive strategy epic directly in your browser.

How to Play

Command your army across gigantic maps, capturing castles and managing your troops in turn-based grid combat. The objective of each sprawling chapter is to seize enemy strongholds while protecting your own.

Controls: Use the Arrow Keys to move the cursor and your units. Press X to select a unit, confirm an action, or view a character’s stats, and Z to cancel. Press Enter to bring up the map menu to end your turn.

Tips

  • Plan your pairings: The children in the second half of the game inherit the stats, skills, and inventory of their parents. Pair units strategically by keeping them adjacent on the battlefield to build their relationship.
  • Use the arena safely: Unlike other games in the series, units defeated in your home castle’s arena do not die permanently; their health is just reduced to 1 HP. Use the arena with every character to earn gold and experience without risking their lives.
  • Master the weapon triangle: This game introduced the rule that swords beat axes, axes beat lances, and lances beat swords. Always check the enemy’s equipment before attacking to ensure you have the advantage.
