Dragon Warrior IV is a defining 1990 role-playing game developed by Chunsoft and published by Enix for the NES. Breaking from traditional RPG structure, the game is famously divided into five distinct chapters. You experience the story from the perspectives of different protagonistsโincluding a loyal knight, a tomboy princess, and a humble merchantโbefore uniting them all under the Hero’s banner in the final act to defeat the ruler of evil, Psaro the Manslayer.
How to Play
Navigate an expansive world, battle monsters in turn-based combat, and upgrade your party’s equipment to progress through each unique chapter’s story. The browser emulator maps the NES controller to your keyboard as follows:

Tips
- Take advantage of Chapter 3: Use Torneko the merchant to amass wealth and rare items, as they can give your party a significant early advantage when they join the Hero in the final chapter.
- Manage your AI party: In the NES version, your party members in Chapter 5 are controlled by AI. Frequently adjust their tactical behaviors in the menu so they use the most effective spells and attacks.
- Keep your gear updated: Raw stats from leveling up are helpful, but upgrading your weapons and armor in towns is often the deciding factor against tough bosses.
