Game description:

Dragon Warrior IV is a classic role-playing game released for the NES in 1992 by Enix. It stands out in the beloved RPG series for its unique episodic narrative. Instead of starting as the main hero, you play through four distinct chapters focusing on the companions who will eventually join you, before finally taking on the role of the Hero in the epic fifth chapter to save the world.

How to Play

The objective is to gather your destined party members and defeat the evil Psaro the Manslayer. The game features traditional turn-based combat and top-down exploration. As an NES title, use the D-pad to move, A to confirm actions or open menus, B to cancel, and Start/Select to pause or manage settings. In your browser emulator, these map to the arrow keys for movement, Z and X for the A and B buttons, and Enter and Shift for Start and Select.

Tips

  • Take time to grind for gold and experience in the early chapters, as your party members’ stats and certain inventory items carry over when they rejoin you later.
  • During Torneko’s chapter, focus on working at the shop and trading weapons to amass a massive fortune rather than just fighting monsters.
  • Pay close attention to the AI Tactics system in Chapter 5. Setting the right strategy for your companions is essential for surviving tough boss battles, as they will act on their own.
