Game description:

Play Chessmaster, the classic chess simulation published by Software Toolworks for the Game Gear in 1989. It brings the full, rigorous board game experience to a handheld format, offering multiple difficulty levels and a robust CPU opponent that challenges both beginners and experienced players.

How to play

The objective is to checkmate your opponent’s king. Use the arrow keys to move your cursor across the board. Press X to select and place pieces, and Z to cancel a move or navigate menus. Press Enter to pause or start, and use F7 and F8 to save and load your progress directly in the browser.

Tips

  • Start on a lower difficulty setting if you are learning; the computer calculates its turns much faster on easier levels.
  • Switch to the 2D overhead view instead of the 3D perspective for a clearer, unobstructed look at the entire board.
  • Do not hesitate to use the built-in “take back” feature to undo a move if you make a critical blunder.
