Batman Returns is an 8-bit action platformer released for the Sega Game Gear in 1992. Based on Tim Burton’s superhero film, the game puts players in control of the Dark Knight as he fights through the snow-covered streets of Gotham City to stop the Red Triangle Circus Gang, Catwoman, and the Penguin.

How it plays

Players battle through side-scrolling stages using Batman’s melee combat, Batarangs for long-range targets, and a grappling hook to scale buildings or swing across wide chasms. The Game Gear version features branching stage paths and selectable difficulty routes before each level.

Controls

Use the D-Pad (arrow keys) to move and crouch. Press Button 1 (X) to attack with punches or Batarangs, and Button 2 (Z) to jump. Use the grappling hook by pressing up while holding the attack button near grapple points. Press Start (Enter) to pause.
