Prince of Persia is the classic cinematic platformer, originally released in 1989 and later ported to the Game Gear. Known for its fluid, rotoscoped animation and punishing realism, you play as a captive prince who must escape a deadly dungeon to rescue the Princess from the evil Vizier Jaffar within a strict time limit. Unlike standard platformers of the era, the game relies heavily on momentum, precise jumps, and methodical sword combat.
How to play
Navigate the dungeon’s traps, guards, and puzzles to reach the exit door on each level. The browser controls map the Game Gear’s D-pad to your Arrow keys, and its action buttons to Z and X. Use โ to jump up or climb ledges, and โ to crouch. Press Enter to pause.
Tips
- Hold the action button (Z or X) while moving to take careful steps. This allows you to walk right to the edge of a chasm without falling or pass through deadly spike traps safely.
- During sword fights, timing is everything. Focus on parrying the guard’s attack first, then immediately counter-attack.
- Watch out for loose floor panels. While some will crumble beneath you into a pit, others can be deliberately knocked down to open new paths or trigger gates.
