Game description:

Play Captain Tsubasa, the pioneering cinematic soccer game released for the NES in 1988 by Tecmo. Based on the popular anime and manga series, this title breaks away from traditional arcade sports action by introducing a unique role-playing and strategy system. Instead of directly controlling every movement in real-time, you guide Tsubasa Oozora and his team through dramatic, menu-driven encounters, making critical decisions to pass, shoot, or tackle as you progress through the tournament.

How to Play

Your objective is to lead your team to victory by outscoring your opponents. Navigation and menu selections are done with the D-pad (Arrow keys). Use the A button (Z key) to confirm actions, execute commands when encountering opposing players, or take a shot at the goal. The B button (X key) cancels selections, while Start (Enter) and Select (Shift) handle pausing and menu navigation. During matches, you will choose actions like dribbling, passing, or shooting from a command menu when the action pauses.

Tips

  • Watch Your Guts: Every action your players take, from dribbling to special shots, consumes “Guts” (stamina). Make sure to pass the ball to conserve energy for key moments.
  • Use Special Moves Wisely: Signature abilities, like Tsubasa’s Drive Shoot, cost a significant amount of Guts but are incredibly difficult for opposing goalkeepers to stop. Save them for crucial scoring opportunities.
