California Raisins: The Grape Escape is an unreleased side-scrolling action platformer developed by Capcom for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1990. Planned for release during the height of the claymation group’s popularity, the game has players navigate colorful levels, dodge hazards, and defeat fruit and vegetable enemies using projectile music notes to retrieve the band’s stolen instruments.
How to Play
Guide the lead Raisin through side-scrolling stages, jumping across platforms and throwing music notes to clear enemies blocking your path. Reaching the end of each stage leads to boss encounters guarding the band’s equipment.
- D-Pad (Arrow Keys): Move left, right, or crouch.
- A Key (Z Key): Jump across platforms and gaps.
- B Key (X Key): Throw music note projectiles to attack enemies.
- Start (Enter): Pause the game.
- Select (Shift): Select options.
Gameplay Tips
- Use crouching projectile attacks to eliminate low-profile enemies without taking damage.
- Maintain distance from fast-moving hazards so you can clear obstacles with range attacks before jumping.
