Game description:

Step into the boots of space cadet Hiromi Tengenji in Burning Force, a fast-paced pseudo-3D shooter released for the Sega Genesis in 1990. Originally a Namco arcade title, this forward-scrolling game plays similarly to Space Harrier, challenging you to complete a six-day final exam at the Earth Space Academy. You pilot a high-speed hoverbike across diverse futuristic landscapes, dodging incoming fire and blasting robotic enemies to graduate.

How to Play

Your goal is to survive all six “days” of training, each divided into three areas. You control Hiromi’s hoverbike from a behind-the-back perspective. Use the D-pad (Arrow Keys) to maneuver left and right or adjust your speed. Press A or C (A or D key) to fire your primary lasers, and B (S key) to launch missiles. Your bike can also jump over ground hazards or use launch pads to catch air.

Tips

  • Master the Transformation: In the first two areas of each day, you are confined to the ground with limited jumping ability. During the third area (the boss fight), your bike transforms into a spacecraft, allowing full free-flight movement across the screen.
  • Utilize Jump Pads: Look out for ramps on the ground. Hitting them at high speed launches you into the air, which is crucial for grabbing floating power-ups and avoiding wide ground obstacles.
  • Weapon Management: Wide lasers and homing missiles drop frequently. Try to save your limited homing missiles for the boss encounters, where dodging their dense attack patterns makes precision aiming difficult.
