Developed by Rare and released for the Nintendo 64 in 1997, Blast Corps is a unique and frantic action-puzzle game. Players are tasked with a high-stakes mission: clear a path for a runaway nuclear missile carrier before it collides with anything and detonates. To achieve this, you take control of an impressive and varied roster of demolition vehiclesโfrom standard bulldozers to giant flying mechsโdestroying buildings, solving environmental puzzles, and frantically making way for the unstoppable convoy.
How to play
The objective is simple but demanding: level every building in the carrier’s path to prevent a catastrophe. As you progress, you will need to switch between different vehicles, each with its own method of destruction, to overcome increasingly complex obstacles.
- Movement: Analog Stick / D-Pad (mapped to Arrow Keys in browser)
- Accelerate / Use Vehicle: A Button (mapped to X)
- Brake / Reverse: B Button (mapped to C)
- Special Action / Exit Vehicle: Z Button (mapped to Space)
- Pause: Start Button (mapped to Enter)
Tips
- Master the Backlash: The dump truck (Backlash) requires you to drift and slide its heavy rear end into buildings to deal damage. Practice its slippery handling early on, as it is required for some of the game’s toughest stages.
- Scan for secrets: Don’t just clear the path and leave; explore the stages to find hidden communication dishes and RDUs (Radiation Dispersal Units) necessary for full completion.
- Use J-Bomb effectively: The flying mech J-Bomb is one of the most powerful vehicles. Gain altitude and ground-pound directly onto the center of large structures to instantly flatten them.
