Amidar is a grid-tracing arcade game published by Konami in 1983, playable here in its Atari 2600 version. You steer a character along the lines of a rectangular grid, claiming each box by walking all four of its sides, while enemies patrol the same paths and close in from every direction.
How to play
Your goal is to fill every box on the screen. Walk all four sides of a box and it fills in, counting as yours. Enemies travel fixed routes along rows and columns — touch one and you lose a life. Fill all boxes to advance to the next round.
| Move | Arrow keys (↑ ↓ ← →) |
| JUMP (freeze enemies) | Spacebar |
| RESET | F12 |
| SELECT | F11 |
| Pause | Alt+P |
Pressing fire activates the JUMP — enemies pause momentarily, giving you a window to slip past when cornered. It lasts less than a second, so time it well.
Tips
- Claim boxes in clusters: trace the outer perimeter of a group to fill several at once instead of one at a time.
- One enemy follows your exact path — backtracking lets it close the gap fast. Keep moving forward when possible.
- Save the JUMP for when two or more enemies block every exit. Using it as a reflex wastes it on situations you could walk out of.
