Released by Apollo in 1982, Shark Attack is an action maze game for the Atari 2600. Originally titled Lochjaw before a lawsuit prompted a swift name change, the game casts you as a deep-sea diver harvesting diamonds from an underwater labyrinth while constantly fleeing a relentless, man-eating shark.
How to play
Your goal is to collect all the diamonds scattered throughout the maze to advance to the next round. If the shark gets too close, you can temporarily hide in the four corner caves to escape it. Keep an eye out for the Loch Ness monster, which occasionally appears to steal your collected diamonds. Guide your diver through the maze using the standard Atari 2600 controls mapped for your keyboard.

Tips
- The shark moves efficiently on straightaways but struggles with corners. Use the maze’s sharp turns to your advantage to put distance between you and your pursuer.
- Hiding in the corner caves makes you temporarily invulnerable to the shark, but staying too long will cause a monster to emerge and eat you. Use the caves as a brief refuge, not a permanent safe haven.
- Focus on clearing the center of the maze first, as it offers fewer escape routes if the shark corners you.
