Wrath of the Black Manta is a side-scrolling action-platformer released for the NES in 1990 by Taito. Playing as the ninja known as the Black Manta, your mission is to rescue children kidnapped by the criminal syndicate DRAT. The game stands out for its interrogation system, where you can grab certain enemies to extract clues about boss weaknesses and hidden paths, alongside its unique first-person boss encounters.
How to Play
Use the Arrow Keys to move, Z to jump, and X to throw shurikens or use your katana at close range. Press Enter to start and pause the game, and Shift to select. As you rescue children and complete stages, you will unlock powerful Ninpo (ninja arts) such as the Fire Ring and Invisibility. To activate a ninja art, hold the attack button to charge your meter and release.
Tips
- Interrogate Enemies: Look for enemies wearing red outfits; grab them from behind to gather vital information for the current stage.
- Use the Spider Art: The Spider art is extremely useful for clinging to ceilings, bypassing difficult platforming sections, and avoiding tough enemies.
- Save Ninpo for Bosses: Your ninja arts are powerful tools against the syndicate bosses, but they consume your energy. Try to conserve your meter for the end of the stage.
