Williams Arcade’s Greatest Hits brings the golden age of the arcade to the SNES. Released in 1997, this compilation faithfully ports five of Williams Electronics’ most influential early titles: Defender, Defender II, Joust, Robotron: 2084, and Sinistar. Whether you’re flying an ostrich into battle or fending off waves of robotic enemies, these demanding classics test your reflexes just as intensely as they did in the arcades.
How to Play
The objective changes completely depending on which game you select from the main menu, but all are accessible using standard SNES controls. In your browser, use the Arrow Keys to move and the Z, X, A, and S keys for the action buttons. Press Enter to Start and Shift for Select to navigate the collection’s menus.
Tips
- Joust: Remember that the winner of a collision is always the rider whose lance is higher. Rapidly tap the flap button to gain altitude when engaging enemies.
- Robotron: 2084: Since the SNES doesn’t have the original twin-stick arcade setup, take a moment to figure out the control scheme for shooting independently of moving. Using the face buttons to fire in different directions is key to survival.
- Sinistar: Don’t forget to mine crystals from planetoids to craft Sinibombs; they are the only way to defeat the boss when it comes after you.
