Game description:

NHL 96 is an ice hockey game developed and published by EA Sports for the Sega Genesis, released in 1995 to cover the 1995–96 NHL season. It features real licensed teams and player rosters, with a fast, physical match built around skating, shooting, passing, and bodychecking — and fights that can erupt when tempers run high.

How to play

Use the arrow keys to skate. S passes to the nearest open teammate; X shoots — tap for a wrist shot, or hold briefly to wind up a slap shot. Z delivers a body check on offense; on defense it poke-checks for the puck instead. Press Enter to start or pause. A second player can join on the same keyboard or with a gamepad.

Tips

  • One-timers are your most reliable route to goal: get a player near the slot, pass to them, and shoot the instant they receive the puck.
  • On the power play, have a defender skate to the blue line and charge a slap shot — the penalty-killing defender typically backs off and leaves that lane clear.
  • On defense, favour the poke check (Z) over committing to a body check; a mistimed hit leaves a gap and puts you out of position.
