Game description:

WCW Mayhem is a professional wrestling game released for the Nintendo 64 in 1999. Developed by Electronic Arts after acquiring the WCW license, it marked a shift away from the AKI engine used in previous titles. The game is notable for being one of the first wrestling titles to feature live audio commentary, provided by Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan, and for introducing fully explorable backstage areas where matches could continue outside the ring. The roster includes over 50 WCW and nWo wrestlers from the late 90s era.

How to play

Choose your favourite WCW or nWo superstar and compete in various match types, from standard singles bouts to multi-man brawls and pay-per-view events. The objective is to pin your opponent for a three-count or force a submission. In the browser emulator, use the arrow keys to move, Z, X, and C for the main action buttons (striking, grappling, and action), A and S for the L and R triggers to block, and Enter for Start.

Tips

  • Backstage Brawls: You can transition to backstage areas by walking towards the entrance ramp and pressing the grapple button. Backstage environments contain various weapons you can use to your advantage.
  • Momentum Meter: Keep an eye on the momentum meter at the bottom of the screen. Landing consecutive attacks builds your momentum, eventually allowing you to perform your wrestler’s signature finishing move when the meter flashes.
  • Reversals: Timing is everything. Pressing the block button just as an opponent attempts a grapple or strike will allow you to reverse the move and regain the advantage.
