Wardner no Mori (also known simply as Wardner) is a challenging fantasy action-platformer released for the Famicom Disk System in 1988. Originally developed by Toaplan as an arcade game, this port brings the tricky, Ghosts ‘n Goblins-style adventure to Nintendo’s disk add-on. You play as Dover, a hero on a quest to rescue his girlfriend Mia from the evil warlock Wardner. As you battle through spooky forests and perilous stages, you can collect gold coins dropped by defeated enemies to spend at shops between levels, upgrading your magical attacks and health.
How to Play
Your goal is to reach the end of each stage, defeat the boss, and ultimately rescue Mia. You start with a basic fireball attack but can purchase better magic in shops. Use the Arrow Keys to move and duck, the Z key to jump, and the X key to attack. Press Enter for Start and Shift for Select. Timing your jumps and managing your upgraded attacks are key to survival.
Tips
- Save Your Coins: Don’t spend all your gold on the first shop; save up for the more powerful magic like the boomerang or multi-directional fireballs later on.
- Watch Your Step: The platforming can be unforgiving. Take it slow in new areas to avoid cheap hits from spawning enemies or sudden pitfalls.
