Game description:

Urban Champion is a 1984 one-on-one fighting game developed and published by Nintendo for the NES — one of the platform’s earliest releases and among the first home-console attempts at the genre. Two fighters square off on city sidewalks, trading punches until one gets knocked into an open manhole at the edge of the street.

How to Play

Your goal is to push your opponent off the right edge of the screen into an open manhole. You have two punch types — high (X) and low (Z) — and can move with the arrow keys or duck. Build pressure to drive your opponent toward the edge, then close out when they are cornered. Keep an eye on the police car that passes periodically: a flower pot knocked onto it deducts time from your round clock.

Tips

  • Alternate between high and low punches. Once an opponent starts reading one height, switch to the other — mixing the two opens defensive gaps faster than any single-height rush.
  • Two-player mode is where Urban Champion holds up best. The CPU follows predictable patterns, but a human opponent makes the positioning and timing genuinely engaging.
