The Untouchables is an action shooter game released for the NES in 1991 by Ocean Software, based on the classic 1987 mobster film. As Eliot Ness, players battle through the streets of 1930s Chicago to take down Al Capone’s criminal empire. The game is known for frequently switching gameplay styles between levels, jumping from traditional side-scrolling platforming to intense gallery-style shootouts.
How to Play
Your objective is to survive various action sequences, from alleyway gunfights to warehouse raids, eventually confronting Capone’s top men. Use the arrow keys to move your character or aim your crosshair. Press Z and X (acting as the NES A and B buttons) to jump, shoot, or use items depending on the current stage. Use Enter for Start and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Master the reload: In the shooting gallery segments, you must manually move your crosshair to the bottom of the screen to reload. Always find a safe moment in cover to restock your ammo.
- Use cover effectively: In the side-scrolling alley levels, you can roll or duck into doorways to avoid incoming enemy fire. Wait for mobsters to stop shooting before stepping out to return fire.
- Protect the carriage: During the infamous train station level, prioritize taking out enemies quickly. You must also shoot the baby carriage to guide it safely down the stairs while fending off the mobsters.
