Game description:

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 is a genre-defining skateboarding game ported to the Nintendo 64 in 2001 by Edge of Reality. Building on Neversoft’s acclaimed original, it introduces the manual mechanic, allowing players to link flips, grabs, and grinds into massive, continuous combos across diverse real-world locations and fictional skateparks.

How to play

The core objective in Career Mode is to complete goals within a two-minute timerโ€”like collecting the letters S-K-A-T-E, grabbing hidden tapes, and reaching high score benchmarksโ€”to unlock new levels and better gear. For the Nintendo 64 controls, steer your skater with the D-pad or analog stick. Press A to Ollie, B for flip tricks, C-Right for grab tricks, and C-Down to grind on rails and ledges. Crucially, you can link combos on flat ground by performing a manual: quickly tap Up then Down (or Down then Up) right before landing.

Tips for high scores

  • Master the manual: The most important mechanic in the game is the manual (Up, Down). Use it to link vert tricks into grinds across the level to multiply your score exponentially.
  • Watch your balance: When grinding or manualing, a balance meter appears. Tap opposite directions to keep the indicator centered, but be aware that it gets more sensitive the longer you hold the trick.
  • Prioritize air and speed: When spending your earned cash on stat points, upgrading Ollie, Speed, and Air first will give you the momentum needed to reach hidden tapes and secret areas.
