Game description:

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater is a genre-defining arcade skateboarding game developed by Neversoft and released for the PlayStation in 1999. You take control of legendary skaters to complete objectives across various iconic levels, from the Warehouse to the Downtown streets. The gameplay focuses on stringing together fluid combos of flip tricks, grabs, grinds, and spins within a strict time limit to achieve high scores, collect S-K-A-T-E letters, and locate hidden tapes.

How to play

Your main objective in Career Mode is to complete level-specific goals within a two-minute run to unlock new areas and boards. On the PlayStation, use the D-pad to steer. Press X to jump (ollie), Square for flip tricks, Circle for grab tricks, and Triangle to grind on rails or edges. Use the shoulder buttons to spin in the air. The longer you hold a trick, the more points you score, but make sure to release before hitting the ground to land cleanly and avoid bailing.

Tips

  • Use the D-pad, not the analog stick: The D-pad offers much more precise inputs for executing specific flip and grab combinations in the air.
  • Utilise wallrides: Jumping into a wallride by pressing Triangle near a wall is a great way to gain height or find alternate paths to hard-to-reach hidden tapes.
  • Max your stats strategically: Focus on upgrading your skater’s “Ollie” and “Speed” stats early on; catching more air gives you more time to land big point-scoring signature moves.
