Time Crisis is a landmark light gun shooter developed by Namco and released for the PlayStation in 1997. What sets it apart from other shooters of its era is the innovative cover system. Instead of simply shooting off-screen to reload, you actively duck behind objects to avoid incoming enemy fire and reload your weapon, popping back out to return fire. You step into the shoes of Richard Miller, a one-man army infiltrating a heavily fortified island stronghold to rescue the president’s daughter, all while battling against a constantly ticking clock.
How to Play
Your objective is to clear each area of enemies before the time limit expires. Ducking into cover protects you from damage and reloads your gun, but you cannot shoot while hiding, and the timer keeps ticking down. When playing in the browser without a light gun, use the standard PlayStation controller mapping to move the crosshair and take cover:
- D-pad (Arrow Keys): Move the crosshair
- Cross / Circle (Z or X): Shoot enemies
- Square / Triangle / Shoulder (A, S, Q, W): Duck behind cover and reload
- Start (Enter): Start game / Pause
Tips
- Prioritize red enemies: Soldiers in red uniforms are highly aggressive and incredibly accurate. Take them out as soon as they appear to avoid taking quick damage.
- Time your cover: You are invincible while ducking. If you are overwhelmed, drop into cover, but remember the clock never stops ticking.
- Watch for environmental hazards: You can shoot barrels and other explosive objects to clear out groups of enemies instantly, saving precious time.
