Terra Cresta is a classic vertical-scrolling shoot-’em-up released for the NES in 1986 by Nihon Bussan. Originally an arcade title, it puts you in the cockpit of the Wing Galiber fighter to reclaim Earth from the Mandler empire. It stands out from typical shooters of the era thanks to its unique formation system, where you assemble parts mid-flight to expand your ship and firepower.
How to Play
Your goal is to destroy enemy squadrons and ground targets while surviving their fire. Destroying ground hangars releases numbered ship parts; collecting them attaches them to your craft, granting wider shots or rear fire. If you collect enough parts, you can temporarily split your ship into a wide formation to cover the screen with bullets.
- D-pad: Move your ship (Browser: Arrow keys)
- A / B: Fire weapons and trigger formations (Browser: Z / X)
- Start: Pause the game (Browser: Enter)
- Select: Options (Browser: Shift)
Tips
- Armor up: Taking a hit with parts attached won’t instantly destroy you, but you will lose the attachments and your upgraded firepower.
- Strategic formations: Splitting into a formation makes your ship a much larger target. Save this ability for bosses or overwhelming enemy waves.
