Developed by Capcom for the SNES in 1991, Super Ghouls ’N Ghosts is a notoriously challenging action-platformer. As the valiant knight Arthur, you must battle through hordes of undead and demonic enemies to rescue Princess Prin-Prin from the emperor Sardius. The game is infamous for its punishing difficulty, atmospheric level design, and the introduction of a double-jump mechanic that became a defining feature of the series.
How to Play
Your objective is to reach the end of each stage while surviving relentless enemy spawns and navigating perilous jumps. Arthur attacks using various projectile weapons like lances, daggers, and axes. Finding chests can yield armor upgrades that enhance your weapons and allow charged magic attacks. However, taking a single hit destroys your armor, leaving Arthur in his underwear; taking another hit costs a life.

Tips
- Your initial jump trajectory cannot be altered in mid-air, but you can change direction or adjust distance by triggering your double jump. Commit to your movements carefully.
- The dagger is generally the most reliable weapon due to its fast projectile speed and the ability to fire multiple shots rapidly.
- To reach the true ending, you must complete the entire game twice in a row, using the Goddess’ Bracelet weapon during the final encounter of the second playthrough.
