Game description:

Strider is a fast-paced action-platformer released by Capcom for the Sega Genesis in 1989. You play as Hiryu, an elite ninja wielding a plasma sword called the Cypher, tasked with infiltrating a futuristic, Soviet-inspired metropolis to take down Grandmaster Meio. This Genesis release is famous for being a highly faithful port of the coin-op original, successfully bringing its fluid acrobatics, wall-climbing mechanics, and massive boss encounters to the home console.

How to play

Your objective is to hack and slash your way to the end of each stage and defeat the area’s boss. Hiryu is highly agile: you can latch onto walls and ceilings, and perform a sliding attack to slip under enemy fire.

Tips

  • Slide aggressively: The slide move is invaluable. It reduces your hitbox against projectiles and allows you to swing your Cypher safely from a low profile.
  • Collect companion power-ups: Grab power-ups to summon robotic options, like a mushroom-shaped droid or a robotic panther, which provide crucial extra firepower during tough sections.
  • Mash through bosses: Since you have a generously long health bar compared to typical arcade games, you can often defeat bosses simply by getting in close and rapidly mashing the attack button before they overwhelm you.
