Space Ace for the SNES adapts Don Bluth’s classic animated arcade game into a 16-bit action platformer. You play as the heroic Dexter (who occasionally transforms into the muscular Space Ace) on a mission to stop the evil Commander Borf and rescue Kimberly. Released in 1994, this console version abandons the arcade’s pure reaction-based gameplay for a traditional action game where you navigate hazardous stages, jump over pits, and shoot down alien enemies.
How to Play
Your objective is to reach the end of each stage while surviving enemy attacks and platforming challenges. The SNES controls map to your keyboard: use the Arrow keys to move Dexter. Press the action keys (Z, X, A, S) to jump and fire your laser gun. Press Enter for Start and Shift for Select. When you collect a power-up and transform into Space Ace, your attacks become stronger, though the transformation is temporary.
Tips
- Line up your jumps: The SNES version features isometric-style stages where judging depth can be tricky. Take your time to align jumps carefully before committing.
- Proceed cautiously: You have limited lives and health. Don’t rush into new screens, as enemies often spawn suddenly or shoot projectiles from off-screen.
