Sonic 3D Blast (Prototype Jul 03, 1996) is a work-in-progress build of the isometric platformer developed by Traveller’s Tales for the Sega Genesis in 1996. This early version offers a glimpse into the game’s development, letting players explore pre-release layouts as Sonic the Hedgehog works to rescue birds known as Flickies from Dr. Robotnik’s robotic shells.
How to Play
The goal is to navigate isometric 3D levels, defeat enemies to free the trapped Flickies, and guide them to large rings to advance to the next area. For the Sega Genesis, use the arrow keys (D-pad) to move, Enter for Start, and Z, X, or C (mapped to A, B, and C) to jump and perform spin dashes.
Tips
- Use the Spin Dash: It is the safest way to attack enemies and destroy their shells to free the Flickies inside.
- Watch Your Shadows: Because of the isometric perspective, judging jumps can be tricky; use Sonic’s shadow on the ground to gauge where you will land.
- Protect Your Flickies: If you take damage, any Flickies following you will scatter. Gather them up quickly before they disappear.
