Game description:

The Ninja Kids is a 1990 side-scrolling beat ’em up arcade game developed and published by Taito, built around distinctive stop-motion, puppet-style character animation — Taito’s own answer to Konami’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade brawler. Up to four players choose from four ninja children, Hanzo, Sasuke, Akane, and Genta, each armed with a signature weapon and elemental power, and fight through a small town to stop a satanic cult from resurrecting Satan.

How to Play

The objective is to punch, slash, and kick your way through cultist enemies and stage bosses to save the town. Arrow keys move the joystick, Z swings your character’s weapon — Hanzo’s katana, Sasuke’s kusarigama, Akane’s shuriken, or Genta’s sansetsukon — and X jumps, useful for dodging and striking airborne enemies. Press Z and X together to unleash your character’s elemental ninjutsu, a screen-clearing special move that requires at least one collected Ninja Scroll. Insert coins with Shift and press Enter to start.

Tips

  • Hang onto Ninja Scrolls instead of spending them right away — each scroll you’re carrying (up to four) makes your next ninjutsu attack stronger.
  • Akane’s shuriken hit at range, making her a safer pick for keeping cultists at a distance; Hanzo and Genta trade that range for harder-hitting melee weapons.
  • Save your ninjutsu combo for when you’re surrounded or fighting a boss — it clears the screen, so using it on a single stray enemy wastes its power.
