Zoar is a vertically scrolling shoot ’em up released for the arcade by Data East in 1982. Piloting a fighter aircraft over oceans, islands, and military bases, players must survive an endless barrage of enemy forces. The game runs on the Deco Cassette System and is notable for its dual-attack mechanics, tasking you with managing both airborne and ground-based threats simultaneously.
How to play
Your objective is to destroy as many enemy fighters and ground installations as possible to achieve a high score. You must carefully manage your dual weapons: use your forward-firing shot to clear out enemy aircraft, and deploy your secondary attack to bomb bases on the ground below. Between stages, you can try to land your plane safely on an airstrip for bonus points.
Use the Arrow Keys to maneuver your aircraft. Press Z to fire at airborne targets and X to drop bombs on ground installations. Use Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start.
Tips
Focus on taking out ground turrets quickly, as their anti-aircraft fire can easily overwhelm you if left unchecked. When approaching the airstrip between levels, make sure to align your plane perfectly to secure the landing bonus without crashing.
