Skyblazer is a 1994 action-platformer for the Super Nintendo, developed by Ukiyotei and published by Sony Imagesoft. You play as Sky, a young warrior who sets out to rescue the sorceress Ariana after she is kidnapped by the demon lord Ashura. This particular version is a preserved pre-release beta build of the game rather than the final retail ROM — a snapshot of Skyblazer as it looked shortly before its 1994 launch.
How to play
Skyblazer mixes side-scrolling platforming with light RPG-style progression: Sky fights through 17 levels reached from an overworld map, gaining a new magic ability after each boss fight and using it to reach areas that were blocked off before. A handful of stages swap standard platforming for Mode 7-powered flight sequences instead.
- Arrow keys — move, climb, and crouch
- X — jump (hold for extra height)
- S — melee attack (punches and kicks)
- A — cast the currently equipped spell
- Q / E — cycle through learned spells
- Z — revisit a completed area from the overworld map
- Enter — pause
Colored flasks refill your health and magic meters, and collectible gems earn extra lives — both are worth detouring for, since every spell costs magic power to cast.
