Developed by BlueSky Software, Shadowrun is a 1994 cyberpunk action RPG for the Sega Genesis. Known for being darker, grittier, and more open-ended than its SNES counterpart, this version lets you play as Joshua, a runner trying to uncover the mystery of his brother’s death in a dystopian Seattle.
How to Play
As a shadowrunner, you will take on contracts (runs), upgrade your cyberware, and navigate both the physical streets and the digital Matrix. In the browser, use the arrow keys to move, Z, X, and C for your main actions (mapped to the Genesis A, B, and C buttons), and Enter (Start) to open your PDA and manage your team. You can hire runners of different classesโlike deckers or shamansโto assist you in infiltrating heavily guarded corporate facilities.
Tips
- Before tackling difficult corporate extractions, grind some easier escort or ghoul-hunting missions to build up nuyen for better armor and weapons.
- Invest in a datajack and a decent cyberdeck early. Matrix runs are highly profitable and allow you to steal valuable data to sell.
- Magic users cannot use cyberware without losing their magical essence, so plan your character upgrades accordingly.
