Section-Z is a 1985 action-shooter developed by Capcom for the NES. Players control a lone astronaut infiltrating an alien space station, navigating a branching, multi-directional labyrinth. Unlike many scrolling shooters of the era, the game requires you to manually turn your character left or right to shoot enemies approaching from either side while managing your energy levels.
How to play
Your goal is to reach the core of the Balangool space station, choosing your path at the end of each section. The D-pad (mapped to arrow keys) moves your astronaut. Press the B button (Z key) to shoot, and the A button (X key) to flip your character’s facing direction. Start (Enter) pauses the game. Keep an eye on your energy meter, which acts as both your health and fuel.
Tips
- Memorize the layout of the space station; some paths loop back, while others hold valuable energy upgrades.
- Prioritize dodging over shooting when the screen gets crowded, as your energy depletes when you take damage.
- Use your ability to shoot backwards (by flipping direction) to take out pursuing enemies safely.
