Developed by Ocean Software and published by Data East for the NES in 1991, RoboCop 2 is an action platformer based on the sci-fi film sequel. You control Detroit’s cyborg enforcer as he tries to stop the spread of a dangerous new street drug called Nuke. Unlike the first game’s straightforward left-to-right shooting, this entry introduces sprawling, multi-directional stages that require heavy exploration and precise jumping.
How to play
To clear a level, you must navigate to the exit while meeting specific quotas for destroying Nuke stashes and arresting or eliminating criminals. If you reach the end without meeting the quota, you will be forced to complete a difficult first-person shooting gallery minigame to qualify for the next stage.
Move with the Arrow Keys, jump with X (NES A), and shoot or punch with Z (NES B). Use Shift for Select and Enter to Start.
Tips
- RoboCop has a notorious amount of forward momentum and will slide after you let go of the directional keys. Factor this into your running jumps to avoid falling into pits.
- Arresting enemies by walking into them counts toward your quota and is often safer than exchanging gunfire.
- Explore vertically. Many required Nuke canisters and enemies are hidden in upper pathways or lower sewers off the main route.
