Game description:

Power Blazer is a 1990 action-platformer developed by Natsume and published by Taito for the NES. Best known in the West as the precursor to Power Bladeโ€”which was heavily redesigned for international releaseโ€”this original Japanese version features a more super-deformed protagonist named Nova. As a boomerang-wielding hero, you are tasked with navigating a series of robotic, trap-filled sectors to stop a rogue supercomputer.

How to Play

Your objective is to clear each side-scrolling stage, fighting mechanical enemies and a boss at the end of the sector. You can throw your boomerang in eight directions to clear paths. Play in your browser using the keyboard: use the Arrow keys to move, X to jump (A button), Z to attack (B button), and Enter for Start.

Tips

  • Nova’s default boomerang range is quite short. Focus on collecting power-up capsules to increase your throwing range and speed.
  • Take advantage of your ability to attack diagonally and upward. It is often safer to take out enemies from a lower platform before jumping up.
  • The jump physics in Power Blazer feel noticeably different and a bit heavier than its Western counterpart, so do not rush your platforming near bottomless pits.
