Popeye no Eigo Asobi (Popeye’s English Word Game) is an educational platformer released by Nintendo for the Famicom (NES) in 1983. Based on the original Popeye arcade game, this Japan-exclusive spin-off tasks players with navigating familiar stages while collecting letters to spell English words. It retains the classic platforming mechanics of the original while adding a language-learning twist.
How to play
The objective is to spell out the correct English word by collecting letters dropped by Olive Oyl, all while avoiding Bluto and the Sea Hag. The game features multiple modes, including a word catcher and a puzzle mode to test your vocabulary.

Tips
- Focus on the specific letters you need for the current word; catching the wrong letters will not help your progress.
- Just like in the original arcade game, you can collect spinach to temporarily turn the tables and knock Bluto off the screen.
